TEAM PREVIEWS
HAMPSHIRE
Hampshire had a terrible tournament last year and their campaign thus far hasn't been great either. From a total of four matches played, Hampshire have won just one lost two. One of the four matches was washed out due to rain. They have a net run-rate of -0.091, which suggests that their margin of losses hasn't been big.
Hampshire got off to a poor start in the competition, losing to Sussex in their opening match. They then bounced back with a fantastic win over Essex, last year's defending champions. In their last match, however, Surrey hammered them by nine wickets in a rain-curtailed encounter. Considering that Surrey were the lower-seeded side going into the match, their win was rather surprising.
Batting first, Hampshire batsmen failed to get going in the shortened game as they tried too hard to score quickly and lost wickets in process. As many as seven of their batsmen came out to bat, but only two managed to score in the double figures. With wickets falling around him, Sam Northeast held the innings together with a run-a-ball 31, but he perished in a bid to accelerate towards the end of the innnings.
A total of 77 was never going to be easy to defend and it didn't prove otherwise. Surrey's batsmen never looked in trouble as Surrey eventually won the match by nine wickets. For Hampshire, Ian Holland and Mason Crane did a decent job of keeping Surrey's batsmen quiet, but the total to defend was just to low to keep Surrey from winning the match.
All in all, Hampshire is a good team, capable to defeat any team on its day, but its performance has been far from good thus far. They lack experience in both departments of the game with a lot dependent on a few good players. If those players play well and get good support from the remaining players, Hampshire can give the Sharks a run for their money.

SUSSEX
Sussex are on of the only two teams in the group to have played four matches so far. However, despite having played one game less than four other teams, they are sitting pretty in the top-half of the points table. With two wins in four matches, Sussex are currently placed at the third spot with a decent net run-rate of 0.177. A win here will push them to the second spot and that is what they'll be aiming for in the upcoming contest.
Sussex Sharks got off to a pretty good start in the tournament, winning both of their first two completed matches. They were left longing to get out on the field but utilized the opportunity completely when they got a chance to play cricket. The defeated Hampshire and Middlesex in consecutive matches. However, they are coming off a narrow defeat in their previous match as they failed to chase down Kent's total by a narrow margin of one-run.
Despite having to chase a tall total, the Sharks were always ahead in the game, but dwindled out just at the last moment. The needed two runs off two deliveries to win the match, but failed to score any. First, Ravi Bopara gloved a rather harmless delivery to the keeper and then Ollie Robinson was caught short of his crease as he tried to sneak in a single to tie the match.
Sussex's innings was carried forward with immaculate team-work that had almost every batsmen contributing. Phil Salt and Luke Wright got them off to a terrific start, adding 58 runs in 4.2 overs before Salt was dismissed. By the time Luke Wright was dismissed, Sussex Sharks had scored 80 runs in jut 5.4 overs. Although wickets kept tumbling, the Sharks never lost steam and always found themselves ahead of the net run-rate. Perhaps, the only flaw that Sussex's innings had was Bopara's slow knock as he took 18 deliveries to score 18 runs.
Earlier on the day, the Sharks had a mixed day with the ball. Danny Briggs was exceptional as he picked up a wicket and gave away just eighteen runs in his four overs, but the same wasn't the case with their other bowlers. David Wiese, Will Beer, and Ollie Robinson
